Application to Become a Judge

 If you are interested in becoming an adjudicator with the Pacific Coast Judges Association, please read the qualifications before filling out the form.

Minimum Requirements to be a PCJA Music Adjudicator

To be considered for membership and training status in the Pacific Coast Judges Association, a Bachelors Degree in Music or Music Education is required. Significant experience as an educator in all aspects of a successful and quality marching band is also required.

Minimum Requirements to be a PCJA Visual Adjudicator

To be considered for membership and training status in Visual Caption of the Pacific Coast Judges Association, the candidate must demonstrate experience as both a visual designer & instructor of one or more a successful and quality marching band programs, band auxiliary units (‘band front”), and drill teams. Experience with traditional military drill teams and color guards is a plus. Likewise, experiences with drum & bugle corps, winter guard, winter percussion and/or winter winds add to the candidate’s pre-qualifications. Prior or concurrent adjudication experience in any of these areas involving visual design and visual instruction is strongly recommended.

Minimum Requirements to be a PCJA Drum Major Adjudicator

To be considered for membership and training status in the Pacific Coast Judges Association, competitive drum major experience is required. An understanding of rudimentary drum major mace/baton work and/or conducting style is required. Significant experience as a drum major instructor is also required.

Minimum Requirements to be a PCJA Twirling Adjudicator

To be considered for membership and training status in the Pacific Coast Judges Association, competitive baton twirling experience is required. An understanding of rudimentary twirls and experience in USTA or NBTA is preferable. Significant experience as a baton instructor is also required.
